About the Organization:
Do It for Drew Foundation

Drew’s parents, David, and Kimberly Hughes are the founders of the Do It for Drew Foundation. From the very first hour, there was such an outpouring of love and support from their community, they knew immediately that they wanted to give back. As they learned of the medical errors that took Drew's life, they knew that changes in medical care had to be made. Sharing Drew's story would make a difference and help so many people in the future.

The Do It For Drew Foundation feels passionately that they can bring awareness and education regarding Drew's case to medical providers across the country, improve emergency medical care in rural communities like their own, and can help prevent other families from going through what they have had to endure.

Join us in our foundation’s mission to bring awareness and education regarding emergency care, create sports and education opportunities for Drew’s peers, and above all honor our son’s legacy with our own lives — to Do it like Drew.

The Do it For Drew Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) organization and your wonderful donations are tax-deductible!

Just A Few Of The Things The Do It For Drew Foundation Has Been Able To Accomplish So Far

The main goal of the foundation has three key parts; awareness, education, and prevention. Since the foundation was formed, we have traveled all over the state and beyond speaking with emergency medical professionals about Drew's case and how to improve emergency medical care. Drew's story is being shared all over the country, and around the world. There are numerous programs and agencies across the country that use Drew's story to help improve medical care in their areas. If we are unable to travel to an area, we supply whatever resources they need to help them share Drew's story and prevent errors like those that took Drew's life from ever happening again. We have many projects in the works and we are excited about all the opportunities and possibilities we are being presented with. The funds the foundation raises help make people aware of the foundation, educate them about Drew's story, and help to prevent anyone from suffering due to preventable medical errors. The foundation can, and will, make a difference in so many lives!

In the first three years, we were able to award a scholarship in Drew's name to one local high school student. The first scholarship in the amount of $10,000, was awarded to Cadyn Davis, a member of Drew's graduating class in 2017.

Part of the funds the foundation raises goes to support recreational and school athletics. We have helped to support several programs and we hope to continue where we can. We have supported:

West Carteret High School Football, Newport Vikings Football, Croatan High School Athletics, Broad Creek Middle School, Swansboro High School Cheerleaders, Beaufort-Down East Youth Football, and many others.

We will continue to function in the same manner we have from the beginning and we will continue to try to make a difference in people's lives.

You are there for your friends and family and above all you stand up for what is right.
